This is quite an impressive machine! The Victor V was the second most expensive external-horn machine that the company made, and is considered a highly collectable item today. This machine cost a whopping $60.00 brand new, which equates to over $1450.00 in today's money. This is truly a large and stunning piece of furniture, and is very substantial in both weight, performance and detail. We come across Victor V's on occasion, but most have been badly restored, tinkered-with or are in hopeless condition. This is a very nice example. The nickel plating does show wear and pitting in a few places, but it is still very decent overall. The back bracket still has the original pinstriping, which has faded, but is still visitble. The cabinet appears to have been touched-up many years ago, where some sections were lightly overcoated with varnish to bring back the shine, but the original stain and base-finish is still there. The optional large Victor horn (the biggest one that Victor produced) is an untouched original, in very good shape, with the original Victor decal still clearly present. It has a few minor dings from 100+ years of being stored away, but is far better than most we come across. And with so much size, it is plenty loud! The hefty 3-spring motor (Victor's best at that time) is powerful and will provide years of reliable service. It is a very strong performer, with a quiet motor, and plenty of volume to fill any room with sound. This Victor is no toy; a most impressive piece when seen in-person. Due to the weight, a heavy cabinet should be used for support. This one will hold its own anywhere, and would be a stunning showpience in any home. This is not a small set by any means, and is quite heavy, so lots of space with a sturdy base will be required. Please contact us for other horn options we have available to pair with this machine. The motor and soundbox are fully rebuilt.
