This is an very nice Victor V phonograph, with a large Victor Brass Horn, The Victor V was the second most expensive external-horn machine that the company made delivered with a "standard" medium-size Victor brass horn; however, this example features an optional flower horn, which was a $3.00 option at the time. Therefore, this combination sold new for $63.00 which equates to about $1,700.00 in today's money. This is a large, highly detailed, and stunning piece of furniture. The Victor V and Victor VI were the only two "full size" external horn models, with 12" turntables and large, heavy cabinets. This machine came to us from a collector who was liquidating his assets to pursue other interests. The cabinet was refinished at some point in the distant past, but the quality of work is very good. It shows very little wear. The original and correct Victor Large Brass Horn was repainted in the correct "Jappan Black", with a correct decal, but the brass mouth was left untouched, and shows a great patina. The nickel plating on the hardware does show some wear as well, but is 100% correct and original with the machine. The hefty 3-spring motor (Victor's best at that time) is powerful and will provide years of reliable service. We performed a complete mechanical rebuild of the motor and soundbox. This would be a great choice for the buyer who wants a large, full-size external horn machine, in very nice shape, without spending a lot of money. It will look great in any library, living room or parlor. It is a very strong performer, with plenty of volume to fill any room with sound. A most impressive piece.
