This is the type of phonograph that we love to find!
Here is an exceptional and 100% original Victor V phonograph, right down to the original turntable felt! The Victor V was the second most expensive external-horn machine that the company produced. It was usually delivered with a "standard" medium-size Victor brass horn; however, this example features the optional large flower horn, which was an expensive $7.00 option at the time. Therefore, this combination sold new for $67.00, which equates to about $1,800.00 in today's money. This is a large, highly detailed, and stunning piece of furniture. The Victor V and Victor VI were the only two "full size" external horn models, with 12" turntables and large, heavy cabinets. We found this machine at an estate auction near Rochester NY, and given the fact that it was wrapped tightly in burlap and stored in an upstairs hall closet at the original farm house, it a very good assumption that this horn/cabinet set was sold as a combination when new. It has been excellently preserved, showing minimal wear. The patina and overall condition is truly exceptional! It is one of the better examples of a 100%, untouched original Victor that we have come across in recent years.
When we serviced the motor, even the springs and all the internal hardware were original. Until we overhauled it, the motor had never been opened up. Just amazing! The hardware, back-bracket and horn are all original. We rarely come across an untouched Victor V with a matching "No. 44" Flower Horn such as found on this machine. The horn shows light wear, small dings, etc., but is FAR better than most examples that we find. The original Victor decal on the horn still shows clearly. The hefty 3-spring motor (Victor's best at that time) is powerful and will provide years of reliable service. We performed a complete mechanical rebuild of the motor and soundbox. The nickel plating on the hardware does show light wear, but is 100% correct and original with the machine. The machine also has an original (not reproduction) horn elbow that came with the machine. This would be an excellent choice for someone who wants a TOTALLY original Victor, with a full-sized horn. It is a very strong performer, with plenty of volume to fill any room with sound. A most impressive piece. Try to find another 100% original set like this at any price! Then consider our two year unconditional warranty on the motor and mechanics. It is a great find and a wonderful piece for the discriminating collector.
