The CD-20 was sold only to Victor dealers for the purpose of allowing customers to audition records before making a purchase. It utilized an electronically amplified playback system, similar to the Electrola products, except that a pair of headphones were supplied instead of a loudspeaker. This allowed for private listening at low volume levels at the record counter. The case was made of mahogany, and air ventilation ports were used all around to cool the electronics and motor. The CD-20 was introduced in 1927 and it was produced into the early 1930's.

The original 1927 selling price (dealers only) was $60.00. An estimated total of approximately 500 CD-20 phonographs were produced.

No detailed breakdown of serial numbers or manufacturing dates is yet compiled.
